Arts and Culture Grants
Recent arts and culture-related grants made by the Cleveland Foundation include:

$2 million to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum to support the building of a permanent library and archive. As part of its educational mission, the museum aims to become the premier international source for research on the discipline of rock and roll music. The foundation believes that a library and archive are essential for the Rock Hall to achieve that goal.

$1.5 million to the Musical Arts Association for continued support of the Cleveland Orchestra and its strategic plan. Most ($1 million) of the grant will be used for implementation of the plan, while the remaining $500,000 will support the orchestra’s education and community outreach efforts in fiscal year 2008.$750,000 to the Great Lakes Theater Festival to bolster its capital campaign to renovate the Hanna Theater on East 14th Street. Among the planned renovations are reducing the theater’s seating capacity, improving its stage, and creating a professional space more appropriate for many of the community’s smaller performing arts organizations.

$227,000 for the new position of vice president for strategic initiatives at the Great Lakes Science Center. The Science Center is refreshing its educational content to reflect new scientific advancements and contemporary science. The result is a large number of new partnering opportunities and initiatives to manage. The grant will also help the Science Center as it seeks additional public-private funding for these opportunities.

$200,000 to the Beck Center for the Arts in Lakewood for strategic operating support. The grant is recoverable, meaning it will be repaid to the foundation over the course of four years. The Beck Center is the West Side’s oldest major cultural organization.

$150,000 to support SmART in the City, a summer arts and education program for City of Cleveland fifth- and sixth-graders.
